Ironically enough, I believe, from all my studies, that the key to happiness is
REMOVING THE OBSTACLES.
The key obstacle to happiness is a set of old, harmful beliefs, perpetuated and uncorrected, that determine your interpretation and outlook on life, oneself, and the world plus being the basis for one's actions. That is no small thing to tackle - and very difficult to do on your own, though it is doable.
The typical approach to trying to solve unhappiness or "not enough" happiness is to do it sporadically and not in enough depth or with enough expertise. That is "not smart!"
The most effective learning/correcting process that I have seen is from
1. Complete immersion (and completion)
2. With expert specialists
So, I would recommend what I believe, per people I know who have taken it: The Hoffman Institute, which is an 8 day intensive with 2 days of putting it all together (at the end).
I would strongly, strongly, strongly recommend not putting this off, as having a happiness base is the most important thing in your life. Delaying it makes no sense - and delay is the very core of the reason you are not where you want to be and/or could be in life. (A friend of mine seems to have tried everything, but ends up with lack of complete understanding and complete implementation, so she struggles forward. But the struggle is needless, if she would partner with these people to move her forward rapidly.)
Do it! (And let me know about your experience!)

I would recommend that you become an expert in learning, as it will dramatically change your life's quality and content. Scan the front page of The Life University.
Note also that, per the scientific studies, only 10% of happiness is determined by circumstances, with 30% (per the latest updates) being due to a set point due to heredity. With the other 60%, you can dramatically raise your happiness by 1. Learning what actually creates happiness. and 2. Removing the obstacles to happiness. See Happiness.

The Best Self-Help Book Of All
It is possible, from my extensive readings, that You Can Choose To Be Happy, by Tom G. Stevens, Ph. D., is the best self help book out there, in terms of covering life and how to handle it in a practical, sound way to create the healthiest mental functioning and perspective that I've seen. (Readers rated it 8.3 out of a possible 9.0 on helpfulness.
It's long (330 pages), covers everything from happiness to relationships, but it covers all of what you need to re-form your philosophy, perspective on life, and your mastery of yourself.
It's free on-line or you can purchase a hard copy (which I would absolutely recommend, as this could be the most in-depth building of a better life and a way of functioning that you've ever done). The on-line version allows you to search the book to find exactly what you want when you need it.
And there are a couple of excellent tests you can take, both before and "after".
The site link: Choose To Be Happy Site.
This is such a valuable resource that I have done a separate section, where I've referenced you into a number of key diagrams and summaries in the book. Read My Page On Stevens And His Book.
Let me know what you think and what you're getting out of using it.
My aim is to get better and better at serving you to reach the highest happiness in the most efficient, effective manner possible. Let me know if there is anything specific you want me to develop further.
