You’ve heard this a 100 times, but now is the time to take it seriously and do a serious upgrade.
This is discussed on my site in Friends - The Right Ones Can Make A Huge Difference!
You can also create a series of “virtual” people to hang around with, such as good teachers on good blogs and/or real people who you can associate with in a way that is different than in friendships. But the point is that you can create a community that is very uplifting, not just mediocre. See
Role Models And Mentors - Guidance, Wisdom, And Not Reinventing The Wheel.
I think the point is well-made in this article: Tell Me Who You Spend Time With, And I’ll Tell You Who You Are.
Take this very seriously, as it can transform your life.

An interesting anecdote is that an eager learner began applying the 80-20 Rule to her relationships and decided that being around her mother too much was not a good idea, as the experience was so negative and stressful. She then limited the time, but made it higher quality time.
So, she didn’t have to break ties with who she loved, but could “upgrade” just by shifting her time.
