You're breathing 3 times faster than what is healthiest - a book that will enlighten your breathing

The average American is breathing 18 times a minute, when the healthiest rate is about 6 times a minute, or 5.5 seconds in and 5.5 seconds out.

And almost half of Americans breathe with their mouth open, which is very bad  for health.

James Nestor wrote a great book on this and it is summarized very well here.

This falls in the category of the most important things to masterfully learn (and implement into life), as it is something we do millions of times in our lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

This will save lives if it gets anti-vaxxers to actually look at the facts.

As the study cited points out, "reported rates of vaccine refusal
or delay are increasing," which is a MAJOR CONCERN
FOR PUBLIC HEALTH MORE BROADLY.”

Anti-vaxxers will be enabling more deaths than normal because
of the overload likely with coronavirus and the flu season
happening at the same time and overloading the medical
systems, which then creates more
people dying.  (An “anti-vaxxer” is a person who wants to
do what is right and good but is unduly fearful of vaccines,
apparently ignoring the overwhelming evidence for an untested,
unquestioned belief he/she has.)

IF YOU PASS THIS ON, YOU COULD SAVE A LIFE, as converting even one anti-vaxxer could save another
life or lives.  (Published in The Verge, a liberal leaning site but
still based on science and thinking and not opinion.)

Vaccinations Have Prevented At Least 103 Million Cases...

This method of eating helps weight and long term health significantly.

(If in email, remember to click on the title to see the whole post.)

In Dr. Michael Greger’s new and excellent must read book How Not To Diet, he identifies time restricted eating as being definitively and definitely beneficial.  From his site (he doesn’t sell anything), you’ll find this 5 minute video to be definitely worth your while.   Video.

Let me know if you do this and the benefits you get out of it.  (It is a sustainable practice!)

Tip on his book, which is very thick and thorough and contains no BS:  Just implement, easily, the Daily Dozen and the 21 Tweaks (for weight loss or easy maintenance and use his free app (“Daily Dozen”) to track the implementation!   And each line item has great little videos to help elucidate your understanding.

Your physiology MATTERS! It affects all the rest...

“THE EVIDENCE FOR STANDING UP LIKE A BOSS

Do you remember the song "when the going gets tough, the tough get going"?

I was listening to it the other day and was thinking about our automatic vs conscious responses to stress.

When there is a stress (be it physical, chemical or emotional), our first response is mainly sympathetic.

That is to say, our stress response starts to ratchet up.

From a purely physical perspective, we will become more flexed, or hunched over.

Your head goes forward, your upper back rounds, your low back flattens.

You start to physically resemble the fetal position.

This has real time implications on respiration, tidal volume, heart rate, and blood pressure, and hormonal responses like cortisol and catecholamine output.

However, if we can become AWARE of this response, and consciously EXTEND our bodies (sit up straight, or better, get out of the chair and walk, stand tall, stretch, etc) we can begin to send positional signals to our brain that we are strong, not afraid, and ready...this can, in part, dampen this sympathetic dominance.

Extension is a class of movements that are largely parasympathetic- meaning they combat the oft unconscious tendency to flex when we are under stress.

You’ve probably heard the expression you can’t control your stress, but you can control how you respond to it.

One of the ways you can respond appropriately is to extend.

Think about how sedentary we already are (sitting at work, sitting on the couch, driving)...and think of how good you feel when you finish a yoga class, go for a walk (where you are upright and using your erectors), or just stretch.

So, today, stand up tall.  View stress as a tool you sharpen your reserve, make you stronger, and not have the deleterious effects on your health.”

Drinking water the right way to live longer and better.

(In email, click on the post title in order to read the entire post.)

Most people don't drink water the right way, so they lose energy, don't feel as good, eat too much, and don't live long enough!   (And, no, it is proven that coconut water is of no benefit - see linked article.)

I set this up with a "quick reference" page that you can stick on the refrigerator until you've implemented it.

NOTICE HOW LIFE CHAMPIONS TREAT SUCH THINGS

People who become "cool", "powerful", and successful have a predominant way of achieving such: they "perfect" what is of the greatest impact.

Notice that, while water may seem insignificant, water is significant in that we drink it every day, and do it 10's of thousands of times so that making water drinking a little better has a huge, when multiplied by frequency, net impact!!!!!

As suggested in my book Life Value Productivity, you should list everything of major impact and then get very good at those!  (ASAP!!!).  Of course, I suggest, in the book and on the site, the quick major improvers that you might do first...

Life Champions get good enough at all major life skills that they just sail along, easily and successfully, in life!

Shouldn't you (aggressively) do what they do?

IS ALCOHOL GOOD FOR OUR HEALTH AND HEART? OR IS THAT A POPULAR MYTH?

(In email, click on the post title in order to read the entire post.)

First, I make a couple of comments, then watch at least the key video for proof:

No, drinking alcohol is not good for your heart or health, contrary to the myths and erroneous incorrect “studies”.  It is a carcinogenic (cancer causing) toxin that negatively affects blood sugar and sleep. It “numbs” the brain and causes malfunctioning.

Well, how about just a little poison?

Well, uh…

It’s poison.  Don’t drink it.  Use better, and easy, methods for relaxation and we could, actually, have better relationships when we are fully conscious.

Any person who uses critical, rational thinking would come to that conclusion. However, most people will just us “selective” evidence to support their existing beliefs and “deselect” and ignore evidence to the contrary.

Which group are you in?

The fact is, contrary to popular opinion:

“Cutting down on drinking -- even for light or moderate drinkers -- benefits the heart.”

Quotes from WebMd:

“Although we’ve heard for years that moderate drinking is good for our hearts, several recent studies have questioned that long-held belief. And earlier this year, the World Health Organization issued a dire warning about cancer and alcohol. No amount of alcohol is safe, the report said.”

“Cardiologist Michael Shapiro, DO, is not convinced that any amount of alcohol is good for us.

“It’s a common perception that alcohol, and red wine in particular, is helpful for the heart, but that perception is not based on any particularly good evidence,” Shapiro says. “If there is any benefit from alcohol -- and that’s not entirely clear -- it’s probably modest.””

Watch this brief, great, scientific, video:

“For the cancers that have been identified as being causally linked with alcohol, we are absolutely certain that alcohol causes these cancers," says Dr. Rehm.”

The damage one hour of lost sleep will do...do not let this happen.

Be sure you know, and honor that “each organ has its own biological clock.  Read below...

  • “While the master clock in your brain synchronizes your bodily functions to the 24-hour light and dark cycle, each organ has its own biological clock. Over time, lack of sleep can contribute to a whole host of chronic health problems
  • Reducing your sleep by a single hour per night increases the expression of genes associated with inflammation, immune excitability, diabetes, cancer risk and stress
  • The blue light emitted by electronic screens inhibits melatonin production, making it difficult to fall asleep. Electromagnetic fields from these kinds of technologies also have significant effects.”

Be sure to be a master of “rest and recovery”, as an essential, not an optional skill and practice.  Read the pieces on the site:  Energy And Rest Cycles - Part Of Reality, To Be Honored, click here.

Read the full article at Dr. Mercola’s site:

Nobel Prize-Winning Science Highlights Importance of Good Sleep for Health, click here.

____________

It strikes me as odd that people are willing to “give away” part of their lives by not honoring the realities of life.  I hope that you will honor the above, as ALL of your life will go better AND you’ll get even more done, even if you take an extra hour to rest and return to full functioning in your life!

Health brings a freedom very few realize, until they no longer have it.”

((In email, click on the post title in order to read the entire post.)

Somehow, we fail to note what is happening to us if it happens a little at a time (much like the gradually boiling frog).  We live in the drift (passively letting "life" determine us, instead of vice versa, until we get to the stage of (at least partially) becoming a PokeyMan and life disappears into being a Groundhog Day..

We senselessly and unthinkingly let ourselves deteriorate...primarily because:

1.  FAILURE TO SET "BRIGHT LINES"

If we do not set “bright lines” (lines over which we will NEVER allow ourselves to cross over), we get lost in the haze of vagueness - and we accept our new weight or condition as the new relative position to maintain.

NOT GOOD!

2.  FAILURE TO CHECK-IN, BE AWARE

If we do not have a periodic “look” or “check in” in our lives, we will fail to note our deviation from what we would want if we were using our thinking brain.  That is one reason we should tickle a yearly review on our calendar.  (See, below, some suggested "checklists" to use to gauge where you are relative to where you would want to be when using your rational, higher brain.)

THE PLACE OF A PARTNER?

And, even if we have a supposed partner in our lives, we’ll find that the partner will co-enable the deterioration of our health or other conditions in life.  It is best, however, for the partner to be gently, kindly authentic and “in integrity” with what is right and good and to note the truth.  It is essential that we line up with being a supporter of the greater good for a partner and not be resigned to politeness or some concept of it "not being right to advise or intervene with others".  The first rule of life is to do what is "ethical" (for the greatest good).

"LOOK" AT THE END OR NOW?

If we wait til we are on our deathbed to note our condition and cause us to regret our mistakes...guess what...that’s too late!!!!!

Hopefully, you will “look” right now at your life and, at least, determine two impactful “deviations” you are allowing from what is true and right and what is serving your greater good.   And then set a “bright line” (truly healthy weight to be at, blood pressure objective, etc.) over which you will not go (or which you will go back onto the right side of).

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!

Please, please, please...look now...and set yourself up so you are thriving NOW...and not regretting later!  Do not, please, let lethargy, ignorance, and/or apathy rule the day!

Please, please, please...choose only THRIVING as your standard...defining what that is at a time when your higher brain is alert and in charge, setting standards which you will not go below and deciding on worthy “thriving” goals in each area of life (not leaving out any area that is important!).

Brown Fat: Losing Weight Through Thermogenesis - Cold Showers...hot peppers?

This is from a super reliable scientific health site that I use:

Brown Fat: Losing Weight Through Thermogenesis

The recommended diet possibilities merge with the physical things we can do, such as the recommended "cold shower" phenomenon, which is also a huge energizer to start off the morning!!!

Read, from my other main go to health guy:  A Cold Shower May Be More Beneficial To Your Health (Mercola)

And also good:  5 Benefits To Taking Cold Showers.

However, as for me, I would stop short of ice baths (such as Tim Ferriss engages in).  Brendon Burchard uses those however to reduce the inflammation in his body after a day on stage that stresses the body as much as running a marathon!  (It allows him to renew his body functioning.). (Yikes! I can feel the pain...no way...)

But, I am gradually using more and more of the cold shower bit (after a soothing warm shower start), standing longer and longer in the cold, adjusting to it better, and finding it quite refreshing (!!!) - and a big net gain.  (I think you'd better check with you doctor if you have any health vulnerabilities, as it is a big stimulator to the body.).

Our True Seeker ("PL") [you might take a look to see what he is doing with his life] does the full Wim Hof start to the day. [See page on my site: Power Breathing And Body Cooling - Energy Generation And Immune Functioning.]   I think that is a great way to launch your day - and it may be a cornerstone habit that will have a life changing effect...

Note that again:  this could be life changing...

Inflammation will reduce your mental health and create a downward spiral in life

(In an email, click on the title of the post to see the entire post.)

Whatever is going on in your body (and mind) will use up a portion of your limited resources.  If there is too much needed to fix something of concern, it will rob resources working at the time in another area of your body, including robbing from the functioning of the brain.  And the lower brains will detect that and go into various states of emergency, as the lack of functioning from the robbed areas is considered a threat to survival (by the monkey mind AND the reptilian survival brain).

When we take in toxins and eat the wrong foods, we create inflammation throughout the body.  That inflammation takes up a huge amount of resources trying to correct this threat.  Mental health is reduced as clear thinking is harder to maintain - and willpower plummets.  Other body functions suffer, with lower immune functioning (as its resources are robbed), lower digestive capability, lower alertness (as energy is taken away from one's ability to focus and to be present), etc., etc. and etc. - and a whole set of dominoes can be knocked over.

You cannot afford to allow this to continue, if you are to have a good life.

I hope that you will learn the basics about this and cure the cause of the problem so that you are not sucked into the juggling and frenzy of the body being in overwhelm to try to adjust to proper well-functioning (Homeostasis And The Power Zone).

Start here:  Inflammation - Effects, Importance, and Proper Treatment, noting the Anti-Inflammatory Diet And Exercise Protocols ...and following them...

Also, it is essential that you follow The Proper Care Of Your Frontal Lobes - The Key To What Creates A Happy Life.

It is amazing to see so many people unaware of these causes and effects on their physical health and their mental health, and their very lives.

I hope you absolutely heed this and implement it into your life!!!!

Created myths of nutrition...coconut oil, saturated fats...you may need to investigate more

People (and even a few "experts") are quick to jump to conclusions, without really reasoning them out.

They believe such things as "well, saturated fat is no problem.  It's been proven."  Well... Perhaps it might be checked out from a true scientist who uses scientific reasoning and the scientific method.

For instance, an expert I have huge confidence in is Dr. Gregor at NutritionFacts.org.  Look at this short video on coconut oil (which some are recommending as a supplement!):  Coconut oil.

Also, Dr. Mercola is a great example of health himself with lots of research and good articles on anything affecting one's health.

Consider using such experts, so that you have your nutrition mastered to a high level, as nutrition is a repeated event so massive that it has a huge effect on your life.  (Duh!)

(And what if there is a conflict between their conclusions?  I would look at the scientific data, which always tends to be best on Gregor's site, from a conservative point of view.  But Mercola MAY be more cutting edge.)

Consider reading the following piece:

The Law Of Entropy - Health, psychology... and dis-integration toward worse functioning

(In an email, click on the title of the post to read the entire post.)

This is an indisputable, proven law of physics and of life - if you do not heed it, it will lead to destruction or at least diminishment.

When I address the necessity to stay in the Homeostatic Well-Functioning Range (in "The Power Zone"), I discuss it.

WHAT IT IS

Basically, we function well when things are in order, but when things get out of order (into disorder) we start an accelerating downward path creating more and more disorder and consequent costly dysfunctioning.  Disorder begets disorder.  Systems out of order affect the order of other systems.

And, at some point we can "implode", blowing ourselves up (metaphorically but to some extent also physically and mentally).

The key to stopping this negative acceleration is to get things right back to order as soon as possible - and to not let it go so far that it is doing more and more and more damage - and it does it at an accelerating rate!

HEED THE LAW AND UNDERSTAND IT!

Read:   Life And Metaphorical Entropy - Energy Inward With Nowhere To Go

And be sure you keep yourself in The Power Zone, so that you are fully alive, fully productive, fully experiencing the best of life.

This is one of the top 5 principles (and effectors) of life, so please don't let this go unheeded.  Implement this right away!!!!

Your life will be incredibly greater if you follow the practice of adjusting back into the effectiveness zone, the soonest possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nutrition/Energy - Putting The Odds In Your Favor - In Order Of Importance

(Click on the title of the post to read the entire post.)

You can do alot of research and try a lot of things and still feel you are nowhere.

So I wrote this (for myself, too) as a quick and easy (or easier) way to gain great health and energy.

So many people keep on violating the rules and principles.  While I don't get bogged down in those, or in stories, all of what is recommended follows the rules and principles.  Plus there are a few vital links to sources and an excellent book.

Read Nutrition/Energy - Putting The Odds In Your Favor - In Order Of Importance - If you do the top items you'll be getting most of the benefits...

Automatic feedback, tracking - exercise, sleep, weight...

(Click on the title of the post to read the entire post.)

If one wants true power in life, one must convert as much as possible to "automatic" and effortless, plus also be able to monitor and see that one is on track. Having to think and/or decide things on an ongoing basis is a waste of time and willpower energy, plus it is likely not to happen, despite your fantasies about how you will somehow follow through on your "resolutions".  (Hint:  Don't count on your mind to do the job!)

AUTOMATICALLY MEASURING HEALTH

I recommend that you consider the new Fitbit (or equivalent) devices.   They provides the good ol' accountability feedback, for quicker correction and improvement, with reminders! And you can compare over time and activities, to gain perspective, all on the Dashboard, wirelessly updated and available on my iPhone, iPad, and/or PC.

I DUMPED THE APPLE WATCH

I bought the Apple Watch a year ago hoping that these features would be available and easily usable, but I find that that is not the case.  The features of the Apple Watch that are extra, above Fitbit, are useless to me - and Fitbit does the other functions I want better than the Apple Watch!  So I dumped the watch for now (until new apps make up for the difference) and bought the Fitbit Blaze (as it fit the combination of features I wanted).

I also used a good app for monitoring sleep, using my iPhone, but I need to hook up my iPhone with a charger and tell it when to start and when to stop.  A good app though:  Sleep Cycle.

RECOMMENDED LEVEL

I recommend that you consider doing at least The Charge ($110)  but prefer the slightly more expensive better looking one The Alta ($130) (which does not measure floors climbed, but does have text notifications from your smartphone - and a much bigger screen and more stylish look) .  (To see how they all compare, click on compare on the products page and put in three to compare features.  Surge has GPS and the others don't.  Surge and Blaze get music control and are multi-sport.)

THEY ALL DO THESE

Otherwise they all do the following:

Tracks steps, distance, reminds you of where you are on your daily steps goal. It automatically detects what you are doing!!
Sleep tracking, without you having to tell it anything, it will detect it.  (And you can visually see on a graph/chart how the hours and bedtimes compare.)
Monitors heart rate.
Updates computer automatically (wirelessly syncs)
A dashboard to see all current and all historic comparative data (very important for perspective).
Calories burnt by activity.
Time and day and date
Let you know who is calling on your smart phone.
Longer battery life than a smartwatch.
Water resistant.

Blaze, get the gunmetal color for style ($230)  and On-Screen Workouts (Get FitStar workouts right on your wrist, with step-by-step instructions that coach you through each move).

Surge ($250) - Has GPS tracking, but not onscreen workouts. And, in my opinion, has the best look.

THE CHOICE I MADE

Since I'll never use the GPS tracking (since I use a treadmill), but could use the onscreen workouts, and since the look of the gunmetal gray watch looks ok (about the same as an Apple Watch), I chose The Blaze.

My friend (M) chose the Alta.

A FAT % MEASURING, WEIGHT WIFI SCALE

Appearing to be, at about $110, pretty frivolous, the Fitbit scale automatically (via WiFi) updates your dashboard with your weight, body fat percentage, and body mass index.  (I had a scale for about $50 that did all of those functions except the recordkeeping, but something later went wrong with the fat %...).

Though it seems frivolous, for most people it should not be dismissed, as the feedback will help prevent the "weight drift" that most people experience over time. If you combine this with the great regulating and/or fat losing strategy of The Intermittent, Reduced Calorie Days, you should be able to reliably keep your weight down.  Better yet, use the low carb, never gain in any one day, approach and you'll be doing even better - see Why We Get Fat - And How To Get Unfat.

CONSIDER THIS...

One is operating off of a higher level perspective and consciousness, when one considers the benefits of better health as priceless, even the singular benefit of the scale.  Those are worth far more than a few dollars, if one has the money.  (But I recommend you do no less than the Alta or The Charge.)

A highly effective powerful person looks at decisions from a higher level perspective with a better handle on the benefits to be derived from repeated items of seemingly little value per day and weighs them well for the long term, compared to the dollar costs.  Time and attention are so precious that it is best to rid oneself of all activities that repeatedly drain those two vital resources!!!!
