Created myths of nutrition...coconut oil, saturated fats...you may need to investigate more

People (and even a few "experts") are quick to jump to conclusions, without really reasoning them out.

They believe such things as "well, saturated fat is no problem.  It's been proven."  Well... Perhaps it might be checked out from a true scientist who uses scientific reasoning and the scientific method.

For instance, an expert I have huge confidence in is Dr. Gregor at NutritionFacts.org.  Look at this short video on coconut oil (which some are recommending as a supplement!):  Coconut oil.

Also, Dr. Mercola is a great example of health himself with lots of research and good articles on anything affecting one's health.

Consider using such experts, so that you have your nutrition mastered to a high level, as nutrition is a repeated event so massive that it has a huge effect on your life.  (Duh!)

(And what if there is a conflict between their conclusions?  I would look at the scientific data, which always tends to be best on Gregor's site, from a conservative point of view.  But Mercola MAY be more cutting edge.)

Consider reading the following piece:

IS COCONUT OIL GOOD FOR YOU?

A LITTLE, BEGINING RESEARCH INDICATES…

A little, very light research about coconut oil is revealing, especially if you only use scientific experts.

However, many non-scientific types spend their time convincing one that the experts are wrong.  And then they seek to prove it by using the thinking error of generalizing one idea to cover other ideas.  They say since it was mistaken that one should avoid eating fat or that high cholesterol affects health, therefore the “authorities” are wrong in much of what they say.

HEALTHY QUESTIONING… AND THINKING…

Of course, healthy questioning makes sense, but one must also apply basic thinking (and scientific methods) to what conclusion is to be made!

But, then, it is argued that the scientific method and scientists have been wrong and therefore they are frequently wrong.  Again, bad thinking - a classic thinking error!  It also is fear thinking, with an unreasonable false threat being assumed.

THE BEST METHOD STILL IS…

The best method is still following the scientific method, even though we want to do “intuitive” “thinking”.

You can tell whether you are willing to look at this objectively, by noticing any resistance, anger, or emotional upset about anyone questioning this now alternative-medicine “halo” food.

PRINCIPLES AND EXAMPLES OF EFFECTS

Perhaps limiting consumption of any purified, superconcentrated “processed” food is a good idea, as our bodies react highly to excesses and try to normalize by adjusting other things we may not want to be adjusted:

  • Addictive “uppers”, drugs - Reduces dopamine receptors (as does smoking)

  • Sugar - Superconcentrated in doses we never evolved to handle, quickly results in fat storage

  • Processed foods - Too much of a bang, rising insulin levels far beyond what we evolved for….

CHECK THIS OUT FOR YOURSELF…

So, without going too far into this, do your own investigating, noting the opinion of respected experts on the coconut oil controversy (which need not be a controversy!)

“This is no miracle oil," says cardiologist Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, the director of the Women's Heart Health Center at Lenox Hill Hospital. "Everyone is hoping for a magic something — but it’s not coconut oil.”
