Identify what you don’t want - in work, life, relationships - and then...

(In email, click on the post title in order to read the entire post.)

One of the favorite thinking tools for creative, effective thinking is: inversion. With inversion, instead of identifying what you want, you identify what you don’t want and then avoid it.

Another version of this is to use what you don't want as an indicator and identifier of what you do want.  In that case, you would state the positive desire as your intention to fulfill.

MAKE A HUGE LIST!

Think of all the things that you don’t want in your life.  Look at what is not going sufficiently well ("good enough" to get most of what you want in the area), where you are not reasonably well-functioning.

Write up as big a list as you can think of, then set it up so that you don’t have to do those and/or so that you can do the opposite, if needed.

CONSIDER AT LEAST THESE AREAS

A good area to start is in health.  Are you eating healthily but (perhaps unknowingly) suffering from the toxic effects of belly fat?  Is your body operating well enough, strong enough, producing enough energy, etc.? (See My Physical Well-Being Checklist - This Or Something Better...No "Settling" Into Entropy.)

Certainly, review what is not working in your personal psychology. (See Checklist For Being Highly Psychologically Healthy - See Which You Are Doing And Decide What To Change.)

Another area is at work.  There may be some things you are not so good at or where you are unhappy doing them.  If at all possible (and if there is no harm caused), you should figure out how NOT to do those things.  If possible, get them out of your life and stop letting them create unhappiness for you!

The same goes for relationships that are not serving you.  Or habits that are not serving you.

Put them all on your "kill list" or in the "do the opposite" category on your "don't want" list.

Have fun!  But also realize that this could be one of the most life changing exercises you have ever done!!!!!

Complete the elimination of them all, to the extent possible, as this will make your life much, much happier and fulfilling!!!!!!!!!!

[Put this list in your LifePlan book, under Goals/Plans (see Table Of Contents).]
