“Give yourself some extra grace today.”

Today’s message from “Shine” app:  "You're doing the best you can with what you have, ____. Give yourself extra grace today."

And this came with it, when I pressed the button:

Positive self statements can make you feel worse...try rewiring instead...

"Their study, entitled “Positive Self-Statements: Power for Some, Peril for Others,” ... showed that people with low self-esteem actually feel worse after repeating positive self-statements such as “I am a lovable person” or “I will succeed.” Rather than being helpful, these positive thoughts typically triggered a strong negative reaction and a resultant low mood."

What's missing in the "go for it" miracle thinking? (Modify your declaration...)

(Click on the title of the post to read the entire post.)

There are bodies strewn all along the side of the "go for it" success road.  "Go for it" is a simple urging that is supposed to motivate and create - but it most often fails as it is insufficient and unrealistic in and of itself.  We do not reach higher states of existence or productivity by trying to leap over all the work that is needed to build up to the required higher state of being.

This reminds me of the famous cartoon as discussed in And Then A Miracle Happens...Wanna Bet?.  The observer says, in suggesting a substitute for the great leap of a miracle, "I think you should be more explicit here in step two (which is 'and then a miracle happens')."

It is never as simple as "be motivated", "just go for it!", "be world class", "be the best!"...

In the last post, about committing 100% to a higher way of being, many people probably experienced a retriggering of a belief about how they have always fallen short on such "affirmations" or "resolutions".  And then the primitive mind's memory coughs up an "association" with such a thing causing stress, around the idea that it is "so hard" and "I might fail".  So in that awful anticipation, one inevitably "fails" as if by predetermined magic. (Learn The Skill And Process For Effective Change.)

But whenever there are details missing from the entire process of getting from one point to another, there is always a great chance for "non-success".  One cannot in a 4 step process required to reach a specific result leave out, say, step 2, and expect the same result (except through luck, which might not be a very good strategy for running one's life!).   This is all about the simply ironclad rule of reality called "Cause And Effect", which you MUST learn and buy into!  Read 1 2 3 4 = Success - Anything Else Does Not.  And, of course, you should know that the only way to succeed is to do The Build, which is also a MUST to know and buy into! .

In a nutshell, you must "build" yourself and/or a system that has all the pieces in it to cause it to succeed or you're likely to have an unworkable strategy that will not get you to the desired result.  And, yes, it does require, always, learning 1) "how things work" and 2) "how to work them", which, of course, precedes your 3) taking actions that work!!   Duh!  But people try to skip the steps and try to get instant results.

How does this apply to the necessary "commitment to being"?

It means, for one, that you must consider the likely obstacles and have a plan/method/system for solving them!!!

Directly strengthening the positive forces or weakening the negative forces (see The Law Of Numbers And Strength) is the basic overall strategy.  And you've seen this in action as people will add to affirmations or a "vision" something like "with ease and grace".

I might add something like "I am 100% committed to making sure that I take great care of myself, my very being, my primitive brain, always assuring first that I am in The Zone of high functioning balance."

In fact, I did actually include in my "This Is Who I Am Committed To Being And To Doing, Period!" the paragraphs that follows, which are a part of my overall declarations, and being further edited:

"I am 100% committed to my being this, without excuse and without weakness of power being an excuse.  I shall handle the weakness first thing and create, as the first priority of strength and power, directly resting, recovering, renewing as needed, and not escaping or avoiding as a false means of “resting” or “relieving”.  I will not stand for anything less than holding and/or returning as needed to the high operating zone, where I can truly be alive and have the power to create all that I truly want and to be of true service to myself and to the world.

Without compromise or taking any of this casually, I assure that my health is excellent.  Without compromise or diversion I assure that I have at least good energy all day (before the winddown).
Each day, I am 100% committed, no matter what, to doing my grounding, my moving/exercising to energize, and my planning to fully launch the day.  This is not optional nor conditional. It is a MUST for the life I insist on having.   I do this in peace and happy contentment - as the highest level purpose in my life. "

So... keeping yourself in high emotional health is a MUST on the road to the greatest life and the pieces you've chosen to be in that life.  It is not an option.  There should not be any "suffering through it".  There must only be a channeling of energy to that which is of the greatest value - and that is the key to getting the highest "life value" cumulatively in total.

And, I would be disingenuous if I did not back this up with an actual "doing".  It seems that life works only this way:  Being --> Doing --> Having.  It is not Being --> Having... or miracles and great leaps.

A huge factor in achieving peace and living in The Zone is implementing the actions in The Daily Launch - watch the linked videos, too, but absolutely, without hesitation, put this into your life, right now, immediately, asap...and do a great job of it, for it is an essential step!  (Of course, part of that launch is reading your declaration of commitment to ways of being!!!)

Why your life story matters - and why to correct it RIGHT NOW!

[If you receive this via email, click on the title to see the entire posting.]

S writes:

What do you think of this?    Why Your Life Story Matters And Why You Need To Tell It Now.
______

ANSWER:

If you truncate the subtitle, the message is:  "Who you think you are has a huge impact..."

It's so true.

The article suggests two different reasons for "telling your story" - and then it suggests making sure that you have the story down correctly.

I absolutely agree.

PART 1 - TELLING YOUR STORY TO OTHERS.

The first part is "telling your story" to others.  But that means here (and in real life) that you tell only part of your story and that you not barf up the whole story, tales of woe and all.

It suggests that it is useful in being with others in relationships and at work in the sense that they will feel more connected, safer, more trusting if you tell them the parts of your philosophy that tell how you like to work, what matters most to you, how you think about things, what touches you, what makes you tick.  But only do this to "align the tribe" with you for your benefit in relating to them.  If you do this, you will achieve more of the primal survival goal of "assuring that the tribe values you and connects with you" so that you will survive at a higher level where we all cooperate and support each other for our greater good.

That's well and good.  And it is so very important.

PART 2 - TELLING YOUR STORY TO YOURSELF - AND CORRECTING IT!.

But the most important thing to do by far is for one to look at and then correct the series of stories that one makes up about "who one is".

Actually what is occurring is that each of us is only "choosing to be" a particular way based on what we "think" that we know.  In reality one is not stuck with any "fixed way" of being.  We actually only have habitual ways of being, such as "being an introvert" or "being undeserving", but they are not inherent fixed ways of being.  (Accordingly, you should be clear about Who You Actually Are.)

This is what The LMA Site is ultimately designed to address: letting go of the false beliefs (that are often in the form of false stories) and replacing those with what is true and workable.  However, most people do not do a good job of spotting what is false until they learn and understand a few basics of reality, such as:

1.  What Is Reality? Know What It Is Or Suffer From Irreality - You must understand this, and it is useful to also link into Evolution - And The Logic Of How Our Minds And Bodies Work, utilizing the links in the sidebar to further nail this understanding down.

2.  How Your Brain/Body Actually Works (and how to work them!)

And then you should understand how we "make up" things and believe that they are "the truth". Read The Believing Brain Summary.

Your "story" is about events (sometimes correctly remembered, sometimes not) and what you tell yourself about them, including the meaning you give them.   You should know and at least understand, on the site, What Is A Story And What's Not A Story - And The Power Of Not Telling Any Stories ever again!

Much of the time we take a completely neutral event and we add meaning to it where there is no meaning.  Often we make conclusions that are un-thought-out.  But, despite the fact that they have not been verified, we take them on as if they are the truth.  But, inevitably most of them are based on assumptions, illogic, and non-facts.  It seems that Lennie (our primitive brain) conjures them up but does not run them through the higher brain to be "checked out" fact-wise and logic wise.

When Plato says The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living, he is stating the truth that we will not live a good life, or as good a life, if we continue to believe unexamined, false beliefs!

So, when, as the author suggests, we make sure we tell the corrected story, I totally agree.

However, I don't really know of another person who has completed the process! (Here is one attempt:The Story That Caused My Life, So Far....)

I WOULD SUGGEST THIS PROCESS INSTEAD

I would suggest that the process be modified to this:

Write down the "story of your life" from start to finish, as rapidly as possible with no editing, by recalling what occurred in your life AND what you made those things mean.  What conclusions did you draw about yourself?  You would write the whole thing out as best you can, before proceeding with the next question.  (You can, however, as you write the story, also write down any thoughts and questioning of yourself.)   Although you can come back later if you wish, I recommend that you do this in no more than two hours OR in one sitting (with appropriate breaks, but not stopping until the process is finished) - otherwise, you'll never complete the exercise.

And then you'd ask "which beliefs are leading me to do what doesn't work to get the right results for me?"  You can always spot those by "the signs", as we know that if we get a bad result (that's the sign!) there is always a cause - and/or you can look for any beliefs that might have supported getting the wrong result or not getting the right result.  If you can't ferret all of them out, you can just look down the list of beliefs and link into the related discussion and solutions from the page Beliefs And Thoughts - Contents/Links.

It is also highly beneficial if you engage a partner in the process (a counselor, an objective wise friend, or such) to help you get through the "finishing" of the process and to help you see what you are blind to on your own.

SO, THAT'S WHAT I THINK!

The general meaning of the article is absolutely true.  And the vital part, as soon as possible, is for one to tell one's story to oneself - and then go back and run it through the "crap detector" to correct it. (Jim Loehr, the famous productivity coach and author of several great books, uses this term in his book The Power Of Story - Rewrite Your Destiny In Business And In Life.)

The end objective is to, whatever it takes, end up with the key beliefs that underlie happiness (as listed in The Road To Happiness), which include the all important "sense of agency" that is mentioned in Cain's article but which is normally called Self-Efficacy - The Essential Sense Of Life Competency.

NAIL THIS, PLEASE!

May you really nail this down as it is an absolute must for living a life of true happiness!!!

Metaprograms And Your Happiness

We often try to solve a problem by not working at solving the problem directly, in a kind of wishful thinking.

We feel lonely and then we use an affirmation to cover it over or we do something else to make us feel better.  That's all good stuff, but it is not the same as solving the problem.

One of the problems with problems is that they are based on a number of components and have some complexity.

We humans basically operate mechanically off of metaprogams, which are master programs that are a combination of other programs.

We can't "solve" these problems all at once or in some simple way anymore than we can eat an elephant all at once.  We can only do it a bite (a piece) at a time - and eventually we'll have the result of having eaten an elephant.

Metaprograms can be programs that cause a problem or they can be programs that cause a good result.

For instance, at Heartmath they get good results by using metaprograms that include a desirable effect, caused on purpose.

You are asked to get in touch with your heart.  That means something to you (i.e. you have a metaprogram associated with it), which usually results in deeper and slower breathing, a softening, and a good feeling and so on.  All we have to do is initiate the metaprogram and we're off and running - in a good direction.

So we want to use the good metaprogram and to correct the bad feeling metaprograms - and to the extent we do the latter, we can make very, very rapid and deep changes in how we experience life.  If we don't, then guess what!?  We get to repeat the bad program over and over and over and over - Sisyphus-like.

See Metaprograms.

One thing that would be good for you to do, and then share with me, is make up a list of "good feeling" metaprograms.  That list will give us lots of metaprograms to initiate to "feel good", which are healthy than eating ice cream to create that feeling.

Yours toward happiness,

Keith

The Thinking Of A Happy Person - As A Model

One of the happiest people I know did me the favor of sharing with me an "affirmations" writing she did a few years back.

I can see why she is so happy with a viewpoint and philosophy like that.

You may enjoy reading The Viewpoints And Affirmations Of A Happy Woman. You can link to the page it is on by clicking on the link below. The page is called Examples Of Philosophies Of Happy People.

It is easier to formulate good affirmations, statements, and declarations (all part of the Affirming/Empowering part of the Psychology section) from already written examples, picking and choosing and adapting them to what fits you .

An excellent, powerful philosophy will totally transform one's life and happiness. I recommend that you complete one for yourself, as it will save you alot of "misfires" and unnecessary unhappiness.

THE FIRST LESSON IN "MIND MANAGEMENT"

Mark Hyman, M. D., author the The Ultra Brain Solution, when talking about OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) remarked that one of the most impactful strategies was to teach them to, when they have a compulsive thought, to say to themselves:

"It's not real! It's only my brain talking!"

You might recall in the movie Beautiful Mind how he learned that when he "saw" those people that he no longer needed to believe they were real and he knew they were just figments of one's imagination (lower brain, automatic signals without thinking, that simply run along the established neuronal pathway!).

Believing in ghosts is not a great idea. Taking the advice of fools or jesters is not a good idea. Believing our thoughts are true or that messages from the lower brain are true is an absolutely horrible, unwise idea!!!!!!

So, how do you get to the point of actually realizing this? Read about mind management on The Site. And, believe it or not, address every unverified, not-yet-reasoned-out thought with "It's not real. It's only my brain talking! It is not a reasoned out thought nor necessarily true. I will rely only on reasoned out conclusions in my life."

I think it is important to realize that most of us are somewhere on the OCD spectrum, in the milder worry and undue concern areas. With this simple practice, one can move even further down the spectrum, to a much happier place. (Some of you may find it useful to read the section on Worry, under the Psychology section.)

Believe it or not, listing the above statements in the affirmations you read every day will lower the degree of worry and calm your mind over the long term.

I hope you do that.

Another Happiness Practice For You

As I was sitting in the sun this morning, sipping my healthy smoothie, I was enjoying a book that I think you should read. And it reminds me of an excellent practice that all humans should do.

You should read an uplifing book every morning and every night before going to sleep.

I think you'll enjoy, be entertained by, and get much out of the book Happiness From The Inside Out, by Robert Mack. It is a great read and it'll remind you of all the great positive things you can do, based on your commitment to be happy (and ultimately your commitment that you will make to have happiness be your top priority). [The book will also help as additional encouragement and greater understanding to do "what works."]

Keith

Also, here's a dose from my journal this morning:

Isn't it amazing how I can zip around on the computer and just point my mouse and click - and then stuff just happens. We have advanced so far! I'm thrilled!

It seems so incredible. I just push a button and, voila!, something is published worldwide to the internet.

I loved sitting out in the sun today, listening to the birds, and reading a good, and fun, book about happiness (Happiness From The Inside Out, Robert Mack - I should recommend it to "Barbara"..

I am so grateful for the stimulating conversation with JA yesterday. C was right that we should know each other. It is so good to have a friendship that is only about being friends, with the opposite sex.

I am grateful also for Cherry Garcia. Yes, I know it isn't good for my body, but my limit of one per week is good, so all is well and all is swell....

I am grateful for and do so enjoy and relish my smoothies in the morning...and then my flavored coffee is heaven on earth. Life is so good!

Affirmations - Declarations, Commitments To Ways Of Being.

I didn't provide any affirmations to meet your request, as they are so imbedded already that I couldn't think of any. But here are a few, some a bit like rules or ways to have things work, but all ones I believe in. They are placed in my Reminder Notebook that I often use in the morning after my deep relaxation time. (Notebook concept is on the Site.)

I am a good, caring, loving, capable man.

I am always well off and grateful for life. I smile. I enjoy people. I enjoy anything I do that serves a useful purpose. I'm just grateful to be alive.

I am powerful beyond measure.

I am a rational, capable, nurturing adult.

I take care of myself.
I control what I can and that is plenty!

I make myself happy no matter what!

There is so much in life to be grateful for. I am blessed.

All people are blameless, for they do the best they know how given the current limits of their awareness. The problem is never the person. It is the lack of awareness. So the solution lies in increasing that awareness. And one must decide if that is something worth one's while.

(Derived from Barksdale training.)

I love and cherish my wonderful self, for I realize that I am not my actions, that I am a unique and precious being, responsible for my own life, ever doing the best my current awareness permits, ever growing in wisdom and love, totally free of value judging, shame, guilt and remorse.
(Borrowed from Barksdale)

I realize that my source and enabler of power is putting myself into a position of perspective and looking to see what is needed to create what I truly desire. I therefore commit myself to that process as a part of the rest of my life.

Oh, I forgot one:

I shall meet and be with an incredible Goddess Of Love.
