WHAT IS A PROACTIVE, ”RESULTS LEARNER”? THIS WILL MAKE A SUPER DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE!

WHAT IS A PROACTIVE, ”RESULTS LEARNER”?

This is an excerpt from Smart, Directed, Effective, Proactive  Learning - Using "Results Learning" To Create The Life You Love, which is essentially a 50 page “course” to master learning for the greatest boost in your life!

When you are ready to tackle that, do so.  Meanwhile, as a proactive learner (if you decide to be one), you should scan that piece, potentially getting a few things you can easily include in your life right now, in order to “up” your learning a few levels.

___________________________________________________________

The Proactive Learner is one who makes sure he does what it takes to completely learn what is needed AND to implement it for RESULTS!  He will initiate and drive the process forward, regardless of whether or not his resources/coaches provide all of what is needed.  (He is proactive, not at all passive, and is self-determined.)

If the information he is learning does not provide a clear path or there is something missing, he proactively finds what is needed and/or he sets up his own learning plan/success-path to follow to assure that he gets where he wants to go!!!!

He/she determines where all the needs for learning are, prioritizes them, and sets up the plan that will work to close the gaps. (He does not depend on, nor blame, anyone else to provide the answers and/or motivation for him.)

As a result, he is massively more productive than the usual “passive, maybe I’ll learn something” reader (or seminar attendee), where things go into the head and right through it with little retained and almost always no results.  He does not read non-fiction books or articles for “entertainment”, but reads them for value derived from them!

You can “jump” to a level closer to how a results learner performs, simply by using this form to guide you:  The Learning Plan Form.  You will gradually learn better and better how to do this - and it will massively improve your life

A wisdom source for all of life.

One of the best psychologists, who teaches much about parenting, but really about personal wisdom and what works.

Three seconds separate those who are wise from those who are reactive...think about it!

"Three seconds separate those who 'give it their all' from those who 'dont give it a thought' - literally.  THREE SECONDS.  This brief buffer is all that stands between those who settle for 'whatever' and those who settle for nothing less than 'whatever it takes'."

The Two Biggest Barriers To Good Decision Making

Wisdom, from Ray Dalio (read his book Principles even if you’re not in business).

“ The two biggest barriers to good decision making are your ego and your blind spots. Together, they make it difficult for you to objectively see what is true about you and your circumstances and to make the best possible decisions by getting the most out of others.

If you can understand how the machine that is the human brain works, you can understand why these barriers exist and how to adjust your behavior to make yourself happier, more effective, and better at interacting with others.”

Brilliant way of re-minding oneself of your greatest truths/principles

Brilliant!  (Though a simple idea.)

There is an art, and a huge value, to creating a “second brain” (one that is outside your head, but “re-minds” you what is important and best to do.  These are a great combination of wisdom, with great commentary that he attached.  I’ll be cutting and pasting to make my own version...

(Oh, and he is a very sharp fellow to follow!)

These 20 pictures are mor valuable than 100 books.

Even a Master will cycle...

This is a post from a person I would consider to be a relative master of life compared to most people, but our humanness, even for a master, will sometimes “take over”.  Our lower (survival) brain will temporarily be running the show.

So, if you are on your way to mastery, be assured that it is normal to cycle down at times, and know that that does not mean you have failed but that there is something more to learn - but your acquired wisdom and expansion of your mind power will not be diminished.  “ Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”

Wisdom from the proven wisest - likely to be of benefit!

This type of thinking is good for everybody...

I copied this post from facebook:

Sometimes your stagnation is the result of a mistake: You didn’t negotiate a deal in the best way and you can’t stop mentally kicking yourself about it.

You’re not alone. And it’s okay to look for advice!

We can all benefit from the wisdom and experience of someone who has successfully overcome and is thriving.

I have been that person for many top-tier leaders over the years.

Here’s what renowned author, businessman, and speaker, Stephen Covey had to say about working with me:

“A mother lode of timely, hard-earned, bite-size, street-smart golden nuggets...invaluable for job seekers, employed or unemployed.”

If you want to take your career – and life – to the next level, hone your leadership skills and elevate your business skills, I can help.

My new video training will help you avoid the two biggest mistakes leaders make that can cost their organizations millions.

I’ll also cover:

How the top 1% in the world start & finish their day.
A simple mindset shift that will 2X your productivity.
How to negotiate deals, raises and anything in life.

Remember, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.

Join me on this no-cost video training that will help you be the legend you were meant to be.

The most important portal to a great life!

(If you receive this by email, click on the title to see the entire post.)

Many, many people do not make the relatively simple distinction between "knowing", as a personal reality, and what is actually true.  Until the distinction is made, we as human beings will keep on making the same egregious errors in our lives.

See the section on the two types of truth in True Thinking - The Most Important Link To A Great Life.

Touching, moving, and inspiring...the movie...the book..

Touching at a core level - Fred Rogers - A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

It's a movie, so touching and gulping-back-tears...so well done...
I hope you get to see it.

[It is interesting that the wisdom he gave to children is essentially the wisdom we are trying to capture in our lives as adults... it would seem that it is time for us to learn that wisdom, finally...]

Here's his book, full of wisdom we adults could all use: You Are Special...

A touching, moving, inspiring self memoir - incredible

I was tremendously inspired,  with waves of being intensely moved and very deeply touched, as I read this book.

While it contained the story, so far, of Kyle Carpenter, the youngest living recipient of the Medal Of Honor, it had great wisdom, illustrated in his life after the tragedy from his incredible sacrifice.  It wasn’t about the heroism, though.  It was about life after the injury and all the operations, as he created it and adjusted - and chose to live a life truly worth living.

You Are Worth It, Building A Life Worth Fighting For, Kyle Carpenter.

Follow the wisdom in “letters to my younger self”....

“So you probably aren’t ready for some of the things I’m about to tell you. But if you want to avoid some of the pitfalls ahead and ultimately become a successful person — someone who creates positive change in his life and the world — it all starts right here with what I’m about to tell you.”

So begins one of the Letters To My Younger Self in The Players Tribune (professional athletes), but as looking back and seeing what would have been best to do, we all can benefit from this and avoiding the same mistakes.  (Yes, you’ll have to convert this from sports to whatever world you live in, but I’m sure you can gain much insight about what to do and what not to do.

And another letter to my younger self.

Now, enter that term into the search engine in your browser.  Then you can mine these articles and books for pure gold (and/or give it to someone younger who has not made the mistakes).
And, if you’re the younger person, perhaps you can live a whole new life without the mistakes you would have made otherwise.

Who knows?

Perhaps, I’ll do a complication of the advice from others.  Or maybe one of you will (and then let me know about it and maybe even allow me to read it).

Yes, truly hindsight is 100%, while foresight does not fare well, but perhaps others’ hindsight will help your foresight such that it will change your life dramatically.

From a member post on Farnam Street:

"After reading Meditations by Aurelius and Ray Dalio’s book Principles, I became interested in developing a set of my own life-long personal principles that will help guide my life."

The discussion then went to methods and systems on how to assure the principles and rules are followed.

Here's my two cents on this:

Yes, it is great to identify the principles (and rules as you’ve mentioned). I put mine on my site, linked from Values, Standards, And Rules Contents, Links and linked from The Principles And Laws Of Life.

However, per our old 80/20 Rule, I take these and sort and prioritize through them and track or review only the top 10-12. These are translated, most often, into habits/practices and I use the “absolutely necessary for a lifetime” My “Life+” Daily Habits Accountability Worksheet to assure implementation (aided by our good old key principle for life: accountability!

I would recommend reviewing the principles during your 90 day planning process, with it listed on the checklist for the 90 day plan.

Great topic for discussion!

Do not be carried away by emotions...dumbness does not work!

Acharya Prashant:
“Before you accept or reject something, before you get wildly drawn to something, or before you just ignore something and move on, pause for five seconds, just five seconds, and ask, "What is in it for me? What is the real importance it holds?"
Do not be carried away by emotions. Do not be carried away by thoughts. Do not be carried away by impulsive conditioning.
Just wait for five seconds, and ask,"Is it important?"”
“What the eyes see, becomes so heavy, that it totally occupies the mind... And the mind is then not free at all... You could even say that we become dumb. We become dumb.”
So, I ask:
Do you want to live dumbly?
Or do you want to intervene and use your higher brain to decide or leave it up to the monkey mind?
The function of the Power Pause is to stop the dumbness, step aside, and return to a state of well-being (the Power Zone) where the higher brain is brought in to more masterfully run your life, even in the moments of fear or distress.  (if you want to live a great life, always return quickly to the Power Zone!)
Or, as Susan Powter so famously proclaimed “Stop the insanity!”

Don't correct someone, raise them

Interesting, and very good, excerpt:

If we had a child, or anyone, and we caught them doing something inappropriate, we would not amplify it with our words. We would identify what it is we do not want, and then out of it would come the rocket of desire of what we do want, and then we would just visualize, visualize, visualize, until we find peace within our vision. When you make someone and their action the heart of a vision that you’ve spent time on — your relationship improves, your experience is better, and they receive the benefit of the experience.

But if you catch them, and see them, and worry about it, and put mechanisms in place to prevent it, now you have not only amplified it, you have now made a commitment that is hooking you both into that, until usually it gets big enough that you break apart, and then you attract others to fulfill that role.

What to do during and after a very upsetting meeting!

Here is a comment on a journal entry made by a “client” after a particularly agitating meeting: (Note the strategies suggested, as this applies to virtually every human on the planet.)

Probably true.  BUT while in the negative spiral do complete “stream of consciousness” writing, where you write down all that is going across your mind, including “this is a pain in the...to be writing all these details down” or any random thought that isn’t even related to it.  It’s remarkable what will come up, but they are all from the primitive mind’s concerns, which we want to know so that we can handle them and reassure the chimp. You should best be including reassuring and comforting talk to your primitive mind, as it is what is needed.  Things will come up at random, in chaos...but then we come back when not in an agitated state and look at it and go one level up to a bit more organization, but still pretty disorganized, and then come back again and organize it, until we are clear on the steps/pieces that comprised the negative spiral AND on the new steps/pieces that would comprise the ideal, wise system that would get our desired results instead of our undesired results (emotional mostly) from the other negative system (sequence of conversations, bodily reactions that impaired our functioning, etc.).

We are all “nuts” sometimes.  Our “sanity” is pretty much non-existent when we are in our primitive mind.  Your boss is in that state fairly often. But you are also in that state at times.  But your job, and I understate that it sounds impossible, is to recognize that you have very little control when your monster in your mind is rampaging - and that the only thing you can really do is not fight the monster but to sooth it down and return to a calm state.  Your job is to recognize any negative feeling and to immediately, in ALL cases, put yourself back into a resourceful, powerful state, always, ALWAYS, starting immediately with The Pause.  In the conversation with your boss, of course, your sense of peace would be constantly under bombardment, so you’d be left with little to do other than writing notes and doing deep breathing (which will offset, to some extent at least your “going nuts’ yourself.  A human should never just allow “unsanity” for anything beyond the minimum time to see it!

The incredible compounding power of this small investment...

If we gain a bit of extra pleasure in the short term, we gain only that.

If we, instead, invest that time into the long term, whether it be money or knowledge, we get the benefit of compounding - so that we can gain 10X (10 times) the benefit, with no extra effort!

The path to the great life is clear.  And it can only be in using the higher brain we were given and adding to it usable knowledge so that we are more and more capable of producing happiness and all that we want in life.

It is clear that receiving a higher brain with the superpower of higher thinking can benefit us little if we don’t give it much material to use to our advantage, but so few put aside even 5 hours a week for life learning - but it will, even at age 80, accelerate our lives tremendously, as it gives us the thrust to launch ourselves into orbit around a newly created incredible level of living.

You must take this path if you want wisdom and success...

If you want true wisdom and effectiveness in your life, you MUST take the path that leads to it.  (Duh!)

We can’t just hope that little dribs and drabs here and there will do it for us, as we will simply then be life dilettantes, not gaining on life at even a fraction of what is the minimum we should accept.

From the below-linked article:

“All of us have immense unlocked potential, and your brain improves with use, just like your musclesSet up your weekly read-reflect-experiment cycle, and keep a journal of your learning and insights.”
