Pulling It All Together: Rules, Principles, Laws For Life And Success

Please contribute your own!

PULLING IT ALL TOGETHER: RULES, PRINCIPLES, LAWS FOR LIFE AND SUCCESS

I have gathered together this compendium because I think it could be extremely useful for you.  Check it out and see the probable extremely high value it will have for you:

The Intro:

“People read about what it takes to succeed in life but they seldom do a thorough enough gathering where they pull it all together and them prioritize it and implement in into their lives!
But one cannot possibly have the greatest life if one does not do this!!!!!!!!!!!

How much time should you spend on this?  Well, how much is your life worth to you?

It is worth at least...are you ready?... at least 40 hours… or whatever it takes to garner and decide and implement enough to assure a great life.   (Duh! D’ya think!)  This is no time to be a life dilettante or take shortcuts or expect to leap over necessary steps to get the results one wants in life!

This is the foundation for your whole life!!!!”

(Pass this on to others to contribute to them.)

We have a challenge...and now...

[The following piece was aimed at our current challenge in the US, but it applies to anything, anything, in your life that is a “challenge”.

We have a challenge:

This incredible protest CAN instigate true change.

And, now, it will not come to fruition unless WE, not just politicians, create it.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

                                        Buckminster Fuller

We need to “see” the new reality and to do that we need to build a new model - one that makes the existing model obsolete.  (And probably too, too small, and/or too, too gradual.)

The Stockdale Paradox: How to be in these uncertain times

Jim Collin, of Good To Great, one of the top advisors in the world:

Video, 7 min.

“How can we embody unwavering faith, however long it takes, that we will find a way to prevail in the end.

And...

How can we do a better job of confronting head on the brutal facts we are facing as they are today.”

Meditation by those who are successful - a clue?

“Success leaves clues.”

Tim Ferriss, from his extensive interviews with successful people:

  • More than 80% of the interviewees have some form of daily mindfulness or meditation practice
Excerpted from this rather interesting post re: his Tools Of Titans book..

Create your manifesto

This free ebook is worth studying, me thinks:  The World Changer's Manifesto, by Robin Sharma.

Though rather grandiose in his languaging, the materials are very worth while implementing.

As a proactive learner and member of this blog, you know that "learning" is not complete until actual results are obtained from it.  So I urge you to go ALL THE WAY to the results (as all people who are successful do...duh).

Wisdom from the proven wisest - likely to be of benefit!

This type of thinking is good for everybody...

I copied this post from facebook:

Sometimes your stagnation is the result of a mistake: You didn’t negotiate a deal in the best way and you can’t stop mentally kicking yourself about it.

You’re not alone. And it’s okay to look for advice!

We can all benefit from the wisdom and experience of someone who has successfully overcome and is thriving.

I have been that person for many top-tier leaders over the years.

Here’s what renowned author, businessman, and speaker, Stephen Covey had to say about working with me:

“A mother lode of timely, hard-earned, bite-size, street-smart golden nuggets...invaluable for job seekers, employed or unemployed.”

If you want to take your career – and life – to the next level, hone your leadership skills and elevate your business skills, I can help.

My new video training will help you avoid the two biggest mistakes leaders make that can cost their organizations millions.

I’ll also cover:

How the top 1% in the world start & finish their day.
A simple mindset shift that will 2X your productivity.
How to negotiate deals, raises and anything in life.

Remember, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.

Join me on this no-cost video training that will help you be the legend you were meant to be.

Pablo Picasso’s advice on how to be successful...

(In email, click on the title to read the whole post.)

Pablo Picasso:

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”

“Without a clear plan - and without specific goals - your daily actions will be scattered and, therefore, lack impact.”  (Jari - sharp guy - his course is only $97: Goal Mastery.)

Ben Franklin:

"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."

So, what are you going to do?

Before going forward on a big decision on anything, consider this...

We let ourselves see only a part of the complete picture, especially when things are glamorized (entrepreneurship) or villainized (working for others).
Hopefully, you’ll heed this advice and use good solid thinking and evidence to make all your key decisions.  Read the attached piece on “thinking” in a way that works!!!!

“A stupid decision that works out well becomes a brilliant decision in hindsight.”

— Daniel Kahneman

”Beware of advice from the successful.”

— Barnaby James
”Don’t go to college.  It is a lousy education.”
“Follow your heart.  Don’t be ‘reasonable’!”
“Almost every single generic presentation for startups starts with “Ninety Five percent of all startups fail”, but very rarely do we pause for a moment and think “what does this really mean?” We nod our heads in somber acknowledgement and with great enthusiasm turn to the heroes who “made it” — Zuckerberg, Gates, etc. to absorb pearls of wisdom and find the Holy Grail of building successful companies. Learning from the successful is a much deeper problem and can reduce the probability of success more than we might imagine.“

Psychological equanimity: to be steady while the world spins around you

For those who (think they) have tried all of the techniques to handle their psychology and stress, perhaps this, which has worked for the most successful, might be something you can use.

From the Farnam Street Blog:

Stillness is the Key (Ryan Holiday) — The latest book from our former Knowledge Project guest is now available. Here is an overview: "All great leaders, thinkers, artists, athletes, and visionaries share one indelible quality. It enables them to conquer their tempers. To avoid distraction and discover great insights. To achieve happiness and do the right thing. Ryan Holiday calls it stillness — to be steady while the world spins around you. In this book, he outlines a path for achieving this ancient, but urgently necessary way of living. Drawing on a wide range of history's greatest thinkers, from Confucius to Seneca, Marcus Aurelius to Thich Nhat Hanh, John Stuart Mill to Nietzsche, he argues that stillness is not mere inactivity, but the doorway to self-mastery, discipline, and focus."

Do this easy and simple way of successfully meditating...

“Meditation” sounds mysterious and difficult.

BUT

There are some very mechanical, easy things that people can do to meditate - even those who haven't been able to meditate (because they didn't have these easy things to do that would have anyone on earth being able to get benefits from it).  You simply cannot fail to succeed!

Read this 2 1/2 page piece so that you understand more how things work and how to do it easily and well.

Easier And More Effective Meditation

(And then be sure to email me to give me your testimonial as to the results!!!!)

A business “coach” to emulate as a person...and to learn his principles!!!!

Bill Campbell was such an extraordinary man that three business tycoons chose to write a book about him and to teach his principles for coaching, business, and teams.  Whenever the head of Google chooses to do so, this must be a person truly worth learning about AND learning the principles on how to be more effective.

“There was only one Bill Campbell, perhaps the most extraordinary individual we have had the pleasure and honor to meet and befriend.”

The book:  Trillion Dollar Coach, by eric Schmidt, et. al.
It is definitely something a business person should read, but I think coaches and even non-business people might get a lot out of it.  Scan it to see if it is something you might choose to read.

[This pairs with the incredibly great book by Ray Dalio, head of the world’s largest hedgefund.
The title:  Principles]

If you fall, figure out why and then...

If you find yourself “falling” (or “failing”) AGAIN, that simply means that you are not going back and looking at the whole process that caused the fall and then correcting and/or filling in the steps so that your system you are using will produce the right result.

We often get stuck in the “philosophizing” about our falls and get into “acceptance” or “gee, I just didn’t know enough, and that’s ok, I’m not a bad person”.

But that misses the whole point.

While philosophy and the way we look at things helps us with part of the process, we need to fill in all the blanks in between.  We need to describe everything in full detail about what went on and then put next to it (in the right column) what would work and/or what was missing.  And often we’ll find that there is something else to learn, so we go do that.  And we don’t quit until we’ve got a system that works!

Here’s an interesting article about this:   Why We Must Fall In Order To Rise

Richard Branson, Happiness AND Success...

I love the coverage and writing of this author, who wrote the following article on one of my most admired persons on the planet.  A worthwhile read...but even more worthwhile if you break your own life down into these segments and fill in the blanks..

Richard Branson, ways of living, beliefs, values, practices...

The “profound” key to success

Learning how to make money and/or get results out in the real world is useful, but it is the second layer out or the second story of the building.  Without the 1st story of the building being built, along with the foundation, very, very strongly, all the other stories will be wobbly.

Although perhaps obvious, I liked the way this point was made:  The Profound Key To Success.
